In Nicaragua, ocean endeavors are a way of life. As sure as the sun rises, you can find visitors and locals congregating on the open coastlines, all vying for the perfect wave or prime plot of land to enjoy the steady Nicaragua sun. At Mukul, we make it easy for you to enjoy the best of Nicaragua’s outdoor life by providing all the proper gear and excursions for you to make the most of your trip to the Emerald Coast.

Here, six of our favorite ocean adventures available at Mukul.

No. 1 Surf from Sun Up to Sun Down

Mukul Surf

Mukul is a surfer’s paradise, home to some of the best waves in all of Nicaragua. According to your level of expertise, hit the waves on your own or opt to enlist the prowess of TropicSurf’s experts, the luxury surf outfitter in charge of getting you from novice to professional in no time. If you follow their tested ten-level coaching plan, you’ll easily be riding waves through to sunset. The surf instructors provide surfboards, a leash and wax, and enough snacks and beverages to keep you smiling from sun up to sun down while dominating the waves.

No. 2 Take a Sunset Cruise along Playa Manzanillo

Spirit of Mukul

In the evenings when Nicaragua’s sky is at its most beautiful, enjoy the warm tropical breeze of the Emerald Coast as you board the Spirit of Mukul, a fully-equipped 31-foot, double-engine Pursuit. Enjoy a spread of fresh fruit and sushi as you lounge in the evening and prepare for sunset, when the sun paints Nicaragua’s coast with hues of pink and purple. Toast to your trip with a bottle of complimentary champagne.

No. 3 Stand-Up Paddle Board the Coast

SUP Mukul

In the calm, cool waters off of Playa Guacalito, find your balance as you stand-up paddle board through the oncoming waves. A great sport for novice surfers, practicing stand-up paddle boarding will ultimately help you become better on a board, allowing you to paddle longer distances for larger waves. Relax as you stroke through the water and view Mukul’s stunning coastline. Mukul provides boards and paddles for rent, as well as lessons and exclusive paddle-boarding excursions.

No. 4 Kayak and Snorkel the Reefs of Playa Guacalito

Snorkel Mukul

Another favorite aquatic sport at Mukul is kayaking, an exhilarating ocean activity allowing you intimate access with the local marine life. If you’re extra adventurous, opt to fish straight from your kayak. Any fish you catch can be prepared for you by Mukul’s chef. If you prefer a more relaxed activity, don a pair of Mukul’s goggles and hit the waters to snorkel. You’re sure to spot a healthy mix of fish and colorful marine life.

No. 5 Fish for Your Own Catch of the Day

Mukul Fish

If you want to level up from fishing in your kayak, charter Mukul’s boat for a half day or full day fishing excursion. When scouring the Pacific Ocean for the best fresh catch, you’re likely to find a number of fish, including Spanish mackerel, Jack Crevalle, Mahi- Mahi, Red Snapper, Wahoo, and Rooster Fish. If you’re willing to go further off the coast, you can expect to find a combination of marlin and yellow-fin tuna. For each fishing excursion, all you need to do is show up - Mukul’s Capitan and mate will handle the rest. Learn more here.

No. 6 Help Release Turtles on Playa Manzanillo and Playa Guacalito

Turtle Release Mukul

From September to May, join the team at Guacalito de la Isla and Mukul to take part in the Sea Turtle Conservation Program. As a haven for these impressive and delicate creatures, the shores of Mukul offer a respite for turtles to lay their eggs, making it a turtle sanctuary where they can nest and rest in safety. When it comes time for the babies to hatch, assist them to the water to help repopulate the region’s species, such as the endangered Olive Ridley Sea Turtles and Leatherback Sea Turtles that nest on the beaches of Mukul.
